About
One guitarist. One tool.
ThunderFret is built and run by one person — a guitarist who got tired of theory living in one place and the fretboard living in another. Every explanation you read here can be heard and seen on a real neck: click a chord and it lights up with fingerings, click a scale and every position appears, read about why the V chord pulls home and then actually listen to it pull.
There is no company behind this, no investors, and no content team. Every lesson, every interactive widget, every one of the theory guides was written and coded by the same pair of hands, and every music claim on the site is checked against real playing before it ships — when something is wrong, the bug reports come straight to me and I fix it myself.
The deal is simple: the whole fretboard tool and all of the theory are free — every chord, every tuning, every scale, the capo, the circle of fifths, the ear training, the practice gym. No account needed. Pro is the course: the Academy's guided lessons, the Jam band that backs you while you solo, and the mic that listens to you play. That's what keeps the site online and growing — and keeps it free of any pressure to stuff the free tier with dark patterns.
Why “ThunderFret”? Because the goal was never a reference site you politely read. It's a practice room. You come in, you make noise, you leave knowing why the noise worked. Know it — then slay it.
Something broken, confusing, or missing? Tell me on the contact page or with the 🐞 button inside the tool. I read every single message — this site is steered by exactly those reports.
