How it's built
F Harmonic Minor is natural minor, deliberately adjusted. What makes it different: Natural minor with the 7th raised back up to a leading tone (natural 7), which leaves a dramatic 1½-step gap between the ♭6 and the 7.
Start from the natural minor scale and raise its 7th degree by a half step. That single change creates the leading tone (and the scale's signature exotic gap).
