W–W–W–H–W–W–H — W is a whole step (two frets), H a half step (one fret), and 1½ a step and a half (three frets). Start on any E♭on the neck, walk that pattern up one string, and you've played E♭ Lydian.
How it's built
E♭ Lydian is the 4th mode of the major scale. What makes it different: The major scale with a raised 4th (♯4) — one note brighter than the major scale itself.
Because it's a mode, E♭ Lydiandoesn't invent any new notes: it borrows every note of B♭ major and simply treats E♭ as home. Play the notes of B♭ major but start, stop and resolve on E♭ — that shift of gravity is the entire trick. (More in the guide to modes.)
